Some people read special books in the Old Testament. These are called deuterocanonical books. This is a long word. It means they belong to a second list of holy books.

Different groups of people have different ideas about them. The Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches use these books. They see them as part of their holy scripture. But, Protestant groups and modern Judaism do not. They call these books Apocrypha instead.

These books are very old. Most were written between 300 BC and 100 AD. They are found in the Septuagint. This was an early Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible. We even find parts of them in very old scrolls found in caves. One book is called Tobit. Another is called Judith. There is also a book called Wisdom.

Many early church leaders used these books in their writing. Some councils held long meetings to decide which books to include. These meetings helped set the lists used by churches today. It is a big part of how people study faith. Do you like learning about old books?
