Apocalyptic literature is a special kind of writing. The word apocalypse comes from a Greek word. It means to show or unveil things that were hidden.

These stories often use visions or dreams. In these visions, a heavenly messenger like an angel shows the future. The images used are often strange and wild.

Many people wrote these stories a long time ago. Some writers used them to explain why life was hard. They wanted to show that God is still good. These stories often talk about the end of the world. They also describe a new and better world that will come later. This new world is often full of light and good things.

These writings are different from other religious books. Prophets often told people to change their ways. Apocalyptic writers told people to be patient and trust. They believed a great change was coming. This change would fix everything that was wrong. Some people believed the world would last for six thousand years. Then, a time of rest would follow. These ideas helped people find hope during hard times.
