It is named after a man named Baruch. Many people believe he wrote the whole work. He was a scribe for a prophet named Jeremiah.

Different groups of people view this book in different ways. Catholic and Orthodox churches use it as part of their holy books. Other groups, like Protestants, do not include it in their Bibles. They often call these books the apocrypha.

The book talks about many things. It tells stories about Jewish people living in Babylon. It has prayers and poems. One part is a poem of comfort. It also talks about wisdom.

Scholars study the book to learn about the past. Some think it was written a long time ago. They think it may come from the time of the Maccabees. The oldest copies we have are in Greek. Some parts might have been translated from an even older language. This helps us understand how people thought long ago.
