Early Christians wrote many books about Jesus. These books tell stories of his life. They also talk about his teachings. Some people call these the New Testament apocrypha. The word apocrypha means "things put away." This is because they were not put in the Bible.

For a long time, people debated which books to use. They wanted to keep the true message safe. They used three main ways to do this. They used creeds, which are sets of beliefs. They used ordination to pick trusted teachers. They also used canons. A canon is a list of holy books. Most churches chose the oldest books about Jesus. The books left out are called apocryphal.

Some books tell stories of Jesus as a child. We call these infancy gospels. Many people liked these stories. Other books focus on the "Passion." This is a word for the time Jesus suffered. Some books also tell about the lives of the apostles. These stories often include big wonders.

Today, scholars study these old texts. They help us see how people thought long ago. Some books come from a group called the Gnostics. These texts often use dialogues. In these stories, Jesus answers questions from his followers.
