Renaissance literature

arts Maturity 9-11 Next article →

Long ago, a new way of writing began in Italy. This was the Renaissance. It started in the 14th century. The movement spread across Europe for a long time. Writers looked to old Greek and Roman ideas for help. They used these old ways to make new stories. Writers also focused on people. They wrote about how people feel and think. This is called humanism.

New tools helped these ideas grow. In the 1440s, Johannes Gutenberg made a printing press. This machine used movable type to make books. Before this, books were hard to find. Now, more people could read them. Authors began writing in their own local languages. They did not just use Greek or Latin. This helped more people enjoy the books.

Many famous writers lived during this time. In Italy, Petrarch and Machiavelli wrote great works. In England, William Shakespeare wrote famous plays. Edmund Spenser wrote new kinds of poems. In France, François Rabelais was a known writer. These authors helped change the world through their words.

This machine helped spread new ideas fast.

Art and writing changed how people saw life.
