This era is called the Renaissance. Composers used music to show personal feelings. They made songs that matched the words more closely. One special style was polyphony. This is when many different melody lines play at once. These parts weave together to make a rich sound.

People used many kinds of music. Some was for church, like the mass or motet. Other music was for fun, like the chanson or madrigal.

New instruments also appeared. These were early versions of the violin and guitar. You could also hear the lute or the keyboard. Woodwind tools like the bassoon became common too. The printing press helped share this music. Before the press, people had to copy music by hand. Now, more people could buy and play songs. This made music a joy for many people to enjoy.
