It is the fifth book of the Torah. It is also in the Christian Old Testament.

In this book, Moses gives three long speeches. He speaks to the Israelites on the Plains of Moab.

The first speech tells of their long journey. The second speech tells them to follow Yahweh. The third speech says they can find hope through repentance. Repentance means turning back to what is right.

The book contains many rules. These are called the Deuteronomic Code. They tell people how to live in the Promised Land. These rules include the Ten Commandments.

One famous part is the Shema. It says that the Lord is one.

The book ends with new leaders. Joshua becomes the new leader after Moses. Moses goes up Mount Nebo. He dies there and is buried by God. Many people believe God told Moses these words. But many scholars think it was written much later. They think it was written between the 7th and 5th centuries BCE.
