It is located in the Yunnan province. The rocks here look like a forest. They look like trees made of stone. These tall rocks are called limestone formations. This means they are made of limestone rock.

This place began a very long time ago. About 270 million years ago, this area was a shallow sea. Layers of sand and limestone built up on the floor. Later, the land rose up. Wind and running water began to shape the rocks. This is called weathering. Weathering is when wind and water wear away rock. This process made the tall pillars we see today.

Many people visit the forest to see it. Some parts are even UNESCO World Heritage Sites. This means they are very important to the world.

Local people have stories about the rocks. One legend tells of a girl named Ashima. She was a beautiful girl from the Yi people. The story says she turned into a stone. Every year, people celebrate the Torch Festival. They have folk dances and wrestling there.
