Deep river valleys split the mountain ranges. Three big rivers flow through these valleys. They are the Yangtze, the Mekong, and the Salween. This area is a special place called a World Heritage Site.

The mountains have many different parts. The Daxue Mountains are in the east. They hold Mount Gongga. This is the highest peak in the whole group.

Much of the land is covered in conifer forests. These are woods filled with cone-bearing trees. The mountains are home to many rare living things. You might find the giant panda in the eastern ranges. Other animals like deer and primates live here too. The area has many types of plants and woods. This makes it a very important place for nature.
