As the water flows, the land changes. At first, it is a cold desert. Later, it becomes a green forest. The river also makes a huge canyon. This is the Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon. It is the deepest canyon in the world. The river has three big waterfalls. One is called the "Hidden Falls."

Some people use the river for kayaking. The water can be very rough. This makes it hard to travel. Many people live in the river basin. This is because the weather is not too harsh there. The river is bounded by the Himalayas to the south. To the north are the Kang Rinpoche and Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains. China is now building a very large dam on the river. This will make power from the water.
