How did they get this way? It happened through erosion. Erosion is when wind or water wears away rock. Rain plays a big part here. Rain drops wash away soft sandstone and conglomerate. These are types of sedimentary rocks. Some rocks have clay in them. The clay gets hard from the sun and rain. This hard layer stays on top. It helps the rest of the rock stay safe. This creates tall shapes.

The rocks have many colors. They can be yellow or red. This is because of iron minerals in the rock.
