The Rosette Nebula is a giant cloud in space.

It is located in the Monoceros region. The nebula is about 130 light-years wide. It sits 5,000 light-years away from Earth. Some people say it looks like a rose. Others think it looks like a human skull.

Many young stars live inside this cloud. There are about 2,500 young stars there. These stars make the cloud glow. The stars give off radiation, which is a type of light. This light hits the atoms in the cloud. Then, the atoms give off their own light. This makes an emission nebula. This is the glowing cloud we see.

Two big stars are named HD 46223 and HD 46150. These are O-type stars. They help blow a big bubble in the cloud. There is also a hot glow between the stars. This is a super-hot plasma. Plasma is a very hot gas. It can be 1 to 10 million K hot. This heat comes from winds from the big stars.
