This group has a shape like a dumbbell. It has two main parts. One part holds the Milky Way galaxy. The other part holds the Andromeda galaxy.

These two big galaxies are moving toward each other. Most of the group is made of these two giants.

There are many other members in our group. We know of 134 members so far. Most are dwarf galaxies. These are much smaller than the Milky Way. The Triangulum Galaxy is the third largest member. It is a spiral galaxy, which means it has a spinning shape.

The Milky Way also has its own small neighbors. These are called satellite galaxies. One example is the Large Magellanic Cloud. The Local Group is part of a much larger structure. It sits inside the Virgo Supercluster. This supercluster is part of the even larger Laniakea Supercluster.
