Most galaxies are not spread out evenly. Instead, they pull together into groups. These groups can have dozens of galaxies. Some clusters can have thousands of galaxies. Superclusters are even bigger. They are groups of these galaxy clusters.

Our home is in a supercluster called Laniakea. Our galaxy, the Milky Way, is in a small group. That group is part of the Virgo Supercluster. The Virgo Supercluster is part of Laniakea. This large structure is 500 million light-years long.

Superclusters can look like long chains or thin sheets. They can span up to 10 billion light-years. Between these big structures are large empty spots. We call these empty spots voids. Most of the universe is made of these voids. Scientists think there may be 10 million superclusters in the observable universe. Some superclusters are very massive. The Einasto Supercluster was found in 2023. It may be the most massive one found so far.
