The blue star is a sea star. It lives in warm waters. You can find it in coral reefs. It also lives in sea grass beds.

These stars come in many colors. Most are blue. Some are aqua, purple, or orange. Some stars have spots on their arms. They have long, tube-like arms. They also have small, yellow tube feet. They move slowly on sand or hard ground. They move at about 8 centimeters per minute.

Some animals eat this sea star. Pufferfish and shrimp will eat them. Some sea anemones eat them too. The star has a special way to stay safe. It can drop an arm to stop a predator. This is called autotomy. The star can also grow a new arm. This is called regeneration.

Many people keep these stars in tanks. They eat algae and sponges. They also eat tiny bits of waste. People sometimes collect their dried skeletons. This is part of the sea-shell trade. In some places, there are fewer stars now. This is because people harvest them so much.
