Vishvamitra was a famous sage in ancient India.

Before he was a wise teacher, he was a powerful king. He belonged to the Amavasu ruling family. He was also known as Kaushika. This name means he came from the line of Kusha.

Vishvamitra is known for writing many holy words. He is said to have written much of the Rigveda. This is an old collection of sacred texts. He also wrote the Gayatri Mantra. This is a very famous prayer. Many people believe he was the first to know its full power.

One famous story tells of a fight with another sage named Vasiṣṭha. Vasiṣṭha had a magical cow named Sabhala. This cow could make food for any person or animal.
