The poem has 24,000 verses. It is much longer than many other old stories.

Legends tell many things about his life. One story says he was born near an ant hill. This gave him his name. Another story says he was once a thief. He changed his ways after meeting wise sages. One legend says he felt great sadness for a bird. This feeling helped him find the rhythm for his poetry.
