Vātsyāyana was a thinker from ancient India. He lived a long time ago. He is famous for writing the Kama Sutra.

Some people believe he lived in the second or third century. He may have lived in a place called Pataliputra. Vātsyāyana wrote about how people act. He studied human behavior and how to find joy. He wanted to help the world with his ideas.

In his book, he says he was a religious student. He spent time in Benares. He spent his time thinking about a god. He read many old books before he wrote his own. He wanted people to find balance. He said people should follow virtue. He also said people should seek wealth and pleasure.

He told people not to be slaves to their passions. He thought being wise helped people succeed. He also warned people about old, dangerous customs. One thinker named Varahamihira used ideas from Vātsyāyana. Because of this, some think Vātsyāyana lived before the sixth century.
