It comes from an old book called the Rig Veda. A wise man named Vishvamitra is said to have written it. The mantra is for a sun god named Savitr. Many people believe the sun is a source of light and life.

By saying this mantra, people hope to find wisdom. They want the light of the sun to help their minds. Some people use it during a special ceremony for young men. This ceremony marks the start of their studies.

The mantra has a special rhythm. It is made of twenty-four parts called syllables.

Some say it has twenty-three syllables instead. In some places, like Bali, people say it three times a day. They say it in the morning, at noon, and in the evening. This is part of a daily prayer. Many different groups of people use the mantra today. It is used in many books and is known by many people around the world.
