One kind of music is the bhajan. A bhajan is a song of devotion. These songs are often very old. They use words to show love for a god or goddess. Some bhajans list many names of a deity. One type lists 1,008 names! People sing with Bhakti. This means they sing with loving devotion.

Another style is kirtan. Kirtan is a way for a group to chant together. One person calls out, and the group responds. People often dance and play instruments during kirtan.

Musicians use many special tools. They may play the Veena, which is a stringed instrument. They might play the Venu, which is a flute. They also use drums like the Tabla.
