Long ago, a king named Sudas led a tribe. His people were called the Bharatas. Sudas was a leader from the middle Rigvedic period. This was around the 14th century BCE.

Sudas led his people into a big fight. It was called the Battle of the Ten Kings. Ten groups of people fought against him. These groups included the Puru tribe. They also included the Yadu and the Anu tribes. Sudas won this great battle. This win helped his people move east. They settled in a place called Kurukshetra. This helped a large group called the Kuru form.

Sudas had a priest named Vashistha. A priest is a person who helps a leader with holy tasks. Vashistha wrote a song to praise Sudas. This song is in a book called the Rigveda. Sudas also had a wife named Sudevi. The Ashvins gave her to him. After his big win, Sudas fought other groups too. He fought the Ajas, the Sigrus, and the Yakshus. His wins made the Bharata clan very strong.
