Sudas was a famous tribal king from a long time ago. He led a group of people called the Bharatas. This was during the middle Rigvedic period. Scholars believe this was around the 14th century BCE. He was an Indo-Aryan king. His leadership helped his people grow very strong.

Sudas led his people through many big fights. His most famous fight was the Battle of the Ten Kings. This battle happened near the Parusni River. That river is known today as the Ravi River in Punjab. Ten different groups joined together to fight him. These groups included the Puru, Yadu, and Turvasu tribes. They also included the Anu, Druhyu, Alina, Paktha, Bhalanas, Siva, and Vishanin tribes.

Winning this battle changed history for his people. It helped the Bharata clan become the leaders of the area. They were able to move eastwards. They eventually settled in a place called Kurukshetra. This move helped a new group form. This group was called the Kuru super-tribe. The Kuru people ruled northern India for a long time after this.

Sudas had a very important priest named Vashistha. A priest is a person who helps with holy tasks. Vashistha wrote a hymn to praise the king. This hymn is found in the Rigveda. This book is a very old and important text. The king also had a wife named Sudevi. The text says the Ashvins gave her to him.

We know a lot about his family history too. His ancestors included people like Pijavana and Divodasa. Some scholars think Divodasa was the father of Sudas. Others place Pijavana in the family line as well. Sudas also had a rivalry with a man named Vishwamitra. After his big win, Sudas fought more groups. He fought the Ajas, the Sigrus, and the Yakshus.
