The Kuru people lived in a place with many rivers. They lived in small farming villages. Some villages grew into larger towns. These towns had walls made of earth and wood. People grew rice and barley. They also used a dark metal called iron.

Kings ruled the land. They had help from many people. A priest helped the king. A village headman led local groups. There were also wise elders. This group was called the Sabhā. They gave advice to the king. A larger group called the Samiti could elect a king.

The Kurus changed how people practiced religion. They put sacred hymns into books called the Vedas. This helped shape the religion known as Hinduism.
