Seven-card stud

arts Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Seven-card stud is a popular poker game. It is also called Seven-Toed Pete or Down-The-River. Many people played it in homes and casinos. Today, people still play it online.

Two to eight people can play at once. Some people even play with nine. Each player gets seven cards in total. You can remember the deal as "two down, four up, one down." This means two cards are face down. Four cards are face up for all to see. The last card is face down again.

Players look at the face-up cards to make choices. These cards give clues about what others might have. This helps players make smart plans. If the deck runs out of cards, a single card is put in the middle. Everyone can use this card.

At the end, players pick their best five cards. They want to make the strongest hand. There are many ways to change the rules. In a game called Razz, players want the lowest hand. In "Queens and after," Queen cards are wild. This means they can act like any other card.
