In this game, each player gets five cards. One card is dealt face down. This is a hidden card. The other four cards are face up. Because most cards are visible, the game is easy to read. You can see the strength of your opponent's hand. This makes the game feel very clear.

Many people still enjoy this game today. It is very popular in Finland. In Finland, people play a special version. This version is called Canadian stud. In this version, a four-card flush is a winning hand. A four-card straight is also a winning hand.

Five-card stud was once part of a big contest. This contest was the World Series of Poker. A player named Bill Boyd won it four times. He won $80,000 from those wins. Today, people play it in small games. You can even play it online. It is a classic way to play cards.
