Five-card draw

Five-card draw is a popular card game. Many people call it the simplest form of poker. Because it is easy, it is often the first game new players learn.

To start, the dealer gives each player five cards. The cards stay face down. This keeps them a secret from other players. First, everyone takes part in a betting round. If players stay in the game, the "draw" phase begins. This is when you can trade cards. You pick which cards to throw away. The dealer then gives you new cards from the deck. Now you have five cards again.

A second round of betting happens after the draw. Finally, there is a showdown. This is when players show their hands. The person with the best hand wins the pot.

Some people play with a stripped deck. This means they use fewer cards. For example, they might use a 32-card deck. This deck only has cards from seven to ace. Using fewer cards changes how hard it is to make a good hand. This game is great for playing at home with friends.
