Draw poker

arts Maturity 5-7 Next article →

Draw poker is a family of card games. In these games, players get a full hand at the start. Then, they can swap cards for new ones. This swap is called a "draw." It helps players build a better hand.

One common version is five-card draw. Two to eight people can play this game. It is very popular in home games. Other versions use different rules. For example, Gardena jackpots use a joker. A joker is a special card. In this game, it can act like an ace. This can lead to very large pots of money.

Some games are played as "lowball." This means players want low cards to win. Kansas City lowball is one type. It uses five cards and no joker. Another game is called Badugi. In Badugi, players use only four cards. You want each card to have a different rank and suit.

Some games have many draw phases. These are called double-draw or triple-draw. In triple-draw, players can swap cards three times. This adds more rounds of betting to the game. Whether playing at home or in a big room, draw poker is a game of skill.
