It is called the Poetics. This book is about the art of making stories. Aristotle looked at many kinds of writing. He studied epic poems and lyric poetry. He also looked at drama. Drama includes plays like comedy and tragedy.

Most of his book is about tragedy. A tragedy is a serious story. These stories use fear and pity to move the audience. This feeling is called catharsis. Aristotle said a good character must be good. They must also act in a way that makes sense. This helps the story feel real.

He said the plot is the most important part. The plot is how the story is organized. A good plot has a clear cause and effect. It might show a good person facing hard times. This often happens because of a mistake. This mistake is called hamartia.

Aristotle also thought poetry was different from history. History tells us about things that really happened. Poetry tells us about things that might happen. This makes poetry a very deep way to think about the world.
