People can perform drama on a stage. They can also perform it on radio or TV. Some drama uses only the body to move. This is called mime. Other forms use music or singing. In an opera, the actors sing the whole story. In ballet, dancers use movement to show feelings.

The word drama comes from a Greek word for "act." Two masks often stand for drama. One mask is for comedy, which is funny. The other mask is for tragedy, which is sad.

Western drama began in ancient Greece.

Long ago, people held contests to see the best plays. They held these during festivals for a god named Dionysus. One man named Thespis was very important. He was the first to act as a character. Instead of just singing, he spoke as someone else. Later, the Romans learned about Greek drama. They made it even bigger and more complex. They wrote many funny plays and sad plays too.
