Some people say he was a nomad. Others say his birth was a miracle. One story says he was born to a daughter of a king. In this story, he spoke special teachings at his birth. Some thinkers call him a mythical figure.

He taught a way called Dzogchen. This means "Great Perfection." He taught that the mind is like the sky. He said the mind is the original Buddha. It has no beginning and no end. To practice, people should let things be. They should not try to seek or find things.

Garab Dorje had a chief student named Manjushrimitra. He passed his teachings to him. These ideas later reached Padmasambhava through a long line of teachers. When Garab Dorje died, his body turned into rainbow light. He gave one last gift to his student. It was a tiny gold box. Inside were the "Three Words that Strike to the Heart." These words help people know the true nature of the mind. Many books are also linked to his name. These texts help people study his ideas today.
