Some people call her the Mother of Tibetan Buddhism. She was a princess born in Kharchen. Legend says a lake grew larger when she was born. Her name means "Wisdom Lake Queen."

She wanted to spend her life practicing her faith. She did not want to marry. At age sixteen, she was forced into a marriage. She married the emperor of Tibet, Tri Songdetsen. Later, she met a teacher named Padmasambhava. She became his main student and partner.

Yeshe Tsogyal was a great spiritual master. She spent many years in quiet meditation. She reached a high level of awakening. Because of this, some schools call her a female Buddha. She even hid special teachings for people in the future.

She had many students. At the end of her life, she had eleven main students. About 79 or 100 people heard her final teachings. She is still a role model for many people today. Her life shows that a woman's body can help a person reach enlightenment.
