Two teams of eleven players compete on a field. In the center is a pitch. At each end of the pitch sits a wicket. A wicket has three stumps with two small sticks called bails on top.

One player, the bowler, throws the ball toward the wicket. A batter tries to hit the ball with a bat. If they hit it well, they run to the other side. This swap earns the team one run.

The fielding team tries to get batters out. They can catch the ball in the air. They can also hit the wicket with the ball. The ball is hard and made of leather. It has a cork core inside.

People believe cricket began as a children's game in England. It is now played all over the world. Many countries like India and Australia love the sport. Some games last only a few hours. Other matches, called Test matches, can last five days. Women's cricket is also growing very fast.
