In cricket, bowling is how a player sends the ball toward the wicket.

A player who does this is called a bowler. They must bowl the ball in a special way. They cannot throw it. To bowl correctly, the arm must stay mostly straight. If the arm bends too much, an umpire calls a no-ball.

Bowlers work in sets of six balls. This set is called an over.

Other bowlers use spin. A spin bowler throws the ball slowly. They make the ball turn when it hits the pitch.

This can trick the batter.

In the old days, bowlers used underarm bowling. This means the ball rolls or stays low. Today, players use many styles. Some use a round-arm style. This means the arm is out to the side. The main goal is to take wickets. This means getting the batters out. Bowlers also try to stop the other team from scoring runs.
