Anoplotheriidae were a group of animals that lived long ago. They lived in Europe. This was during the Eocene and Oligocene epochs. Those are names for times 44 to 30 million years ago.

Their name means "unarmed beast." This tells us they did not have weapons. They were part of a group called artiodactyls. These are animals with even-toed feet.

These animals came in many sizes. One kind was called Diplobune minor. It weighed about 10 kilograms. Another kind was called Anoplotherium. It could weigh up to 100 kilograms.

They lived in different ways. Anoplotherium was a browser. This means it ate plants. It could stand up on its back legs to eat. Diplobune was an arboreal animal. This means it could climb trees.

Scientists study how they are related to other animals. One study says they are close to Cainotheriidae. Another study says they are close to Xiphodontidae. Both of those groups are also relatives of ruminants. Ruminants are animals like deer or cows.
