Anoplotherium was a large mammal that lived in Western Europe.

It lived a very long time ago. Its name means "unarmed beast." This is because it did not have large teeth for fighting.

Scientists found its fossils in France. A man named Georges Cuvier first described them in 1804. He found that these animals had a very long tail. This tail had 22 vertebrae, which are the small bones in a spine.

Some species had three toes on their feet. Most scientists think these animals lived on land. They were browsers, which means they ate plants. Some think they could stand on two legs to reach high plants. This would help them eat better than other animals. They lived in a place that was once a group of islands. Later, the world changed. The weather became colder and more seasonal. This change made it hard for them to survive. They eventually went extinct. Their fossils help us learn how brains and bodies change over time.
