She was one of the greatest athletes in history. She won 22 international titles between 1959 and 1968. This included seven Olympic gold medals. She was a master of almost every event. She was the only gymnast to win gold in every individual event. She also achieved a perfect 10 at a major competition. This was a very rare feat in her era. She held the record for most individual Olympic golds for many years.

Her training showed how much she loved her sport. Before the 1968 Olympics, her training center was lost. This happened because of the Soviet-led invasion of her country. Věra did not give up on her dreams. She moved to the Hrubý Jeseník mountains to practice. She used logs as balance beams. She even used heavy potato sacks as weights. This hard work helped her win the all-around title again. She won the 1968 Olympic gold by a huge margin. Her score was the highest recorded up to that time.

Being a champion was also about being brave. Věra spoke out against the invasion of her home. She signed a famous protest called the "Two Thousand Words." To stay safe, she hid in a remote mountain hut. This hut was called Vřesová studánka. She only got permission to travel to Mexico City at the last minute. At the Olympics, she showed her feelings quietly. During the medal ceremonies, she looked down and away. She did this while the Soviet anthem played.

Her bravery had many consequences for her life. The new government in her country did not like her protest. They made her a persona non grata. This means she was not welcome in official circles. She was forced into retirement for many years. She was not allowed to travel or work easily. In the 1980s, things finally began to change. Members of the International Olympic Committee helped her. After the Velvet Revolution in 1989, her status improved. She eventually became the president of the Czech Olympic Committee.

Even after her career, Věra remained an inspiration. She faced many hard personal times later in life. She dealt with deep sadness after her son died. However, she found her energy again. At age 70, she even showed she could still do the splits. Her name lives on in many ways today. There is a skill in gymnastics named after her. An asteroid in space is also named Caslavska. She died in Prague in 2016 at age 74. She will always be remembered for her skill and her courage.
