Fanny's journey began long before her most famous victories. She first started competing in athletics in 1935 when she was 17. In 1936, she went to the Summer Olympics in Berlin.

During the war, she married Jan Blankers and had two children. Even during difficult times, she continued to set many world records.

Her greatest moment came at the 1948 Summer Olympics in London.

At 30 years old, she won four gold medals in just eight days. She won the 100 m, the 200 m, the 80 m hurdles, and the 4 × 100 m relay. These wins made her the most successful athlete at the Games. She set a massive margin of victory in the 200 m final. Her performance was so amazing that she was welcomed home with huge crowds. The city of Amsterdam even gave her a new bicycle.

Fanny's legacy lives on through the records she set and the paths she cleared. She set or tied 12 world records during her career. Her last world record was in the pentathlon in 1951.
