Yanka Dyagileva was a famous Russian poet and singer-songwriter. She was a very important figure in the Siberian underground music scene. Her music was unique because it mixed different styles together. She sang songs that felt like folk laments, which are sad songs. Her music also had a punk style that felt very raw. People loved her because she spoke about deep feelings like sadness and despair.

Yanka's music involved both solo singing and playing with bands. She started by studying the piano at a music school. Later, she switched to playing the guitar instead. She wrote many poems and sang them at school talent shows. As she grew up, she recorded many different types of albums. Some were acoustic, which means they used quiet instruments. Others used electric instruments and even noise rock sounds.

Yanka was born on September 4, 1966, in Novosibirsk. Her parents were Stanislav Dyagilev, an engineer, and Galina Yanka. She had Russian, Ukrainian, and Czech roots. In 1984, she went to the Novosibirsk Institute of Water Transport Engineers. She did not finish her studies there. During this time, she performed with a political band called AMIGO.

Many important dates marked her musical career. In 1987, she met the musician Yegor Letov. They worked together on recordings for the band Grazhdanskaya Oborona. In January 1988, she released her first album, "Ne Polozheno." She also toured with a band she helped organize called Velikie Oktyabri. Her first big concert for a large audience was in June 1988 at a punk festival in Tyumen.

Yanka's life ended in May 1991. She was found in the Inya River near Novosibirsk. People have many different ideas about how she died. Some think it was a tragic accident in the water. Others believe it was a suicide caused by her depression. Her death felt like the end of the Siberian punk scene. Even today, musicians make tribute albums to honor her. A Spanish band even released a tribute in the Basque language in 2022.
