He lived in the Soviet Union and had a huge effect on its culture. People loved his very unique singing style and his clever lyrics. He often used street slang to make social and political points. Even though official leaders often ignored his work, he was incredibly popular. Many Russian musicians and actors still feel his influence today. He was a true star of both the stage and the screen.

Vladimir's love for the theater began when he was a very small boy.

His mother took him to see plays every single Saturday. He even used to stand on chairs to recite poems for his family. In 1953, his mother gave him his very first guitar for his birthday. A friend named Igor Kokhanovsky taught him how to play basic chords. This gift helped him start his journey as a musical performer. He eventually went to the Moscow Art Theatre School to study acting.

His career began with small roles in plays and movies.
