In gymnastics, the all-around title is very special. It means the athlete is great at every single event. Ludmilla was one of only two women to win a "grand slam." This means she won the Olympics, World Championships, World Cup, and European Championships. She also won four gold medals at one World Championship in 1974. This is a rare feat that only one other woman, Simone Biles, has matched.

Performing gymnastics requires great focus and steady nerves. Ludmilla was known for her amazing serenity during competitions.

In 1975 at Wembley Stadium, something scary happened. A hook broke on the uneven bars while she was moving. The apparatus crashed to the ground right as she landed. Instead of looking back, she simply saluted the judges. She wanted to "stick it," which means landing her move perfectly. She finished her routine and won the gold medals that day.

Her journey in gymnastics began when she was thirteen. She started training in 1965 and joined the Soviet team in 1967. Her coach was Vladislav Rastorotsky, who also trained other famous gymnasts.
