geography Maturity 11-13 Next article →

The Uele is a large river. It sits in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The river starts at a place called Dungu. At this spot, two rivers meet. These are the Dungu and Kibali rivers. Both rivers start near Lake Albert. They flow west for a long time. The Uele joins the Mbomou River at Yakoma. This meeting point starts the Ubangi River. The Uele is the longest part of the Ubangi. Two other rivers join the Uele. One is the Bomokandi River. The other is the Uere River. You can see the river from space. Some parts of the water look red. This is because of iron oxide. Iron oxide is a type of mineral. It gets into the water. This makes the river look red in photos. The Uele is a very important river in this part of the world.
