He was a master of many different writing styles. He wrote plays using verse, which is a rhythmic way of writing. He also wrote news articles for newspapers in places like Moulmein. Hmaing was famous for his complex rhymes in poetry. He used a special style called Laygyo gyi to talk about modern politics. He also wrote satires, which are funny ways to criticize people. He used religious styles to mock politicians who wasted time fighting. One famous poem was called "On Dogs," written in 1925.

His journey began in Wale village near Shwedaung. He was born Maung Lun Maung on March 23, 1876. When he was nine years old, he saw something very important. He saw the British take King Thibaw and Queen Supayalat away. They were taken in a carriage near a monastery in Mandalay. This moment stayed in his mind for his whole life. It made him want to fight for Burma's independence. In 1894, he moved to Rangoon to start his career.

As a leader, Hmaing joined a group called the Dobama Asiayone in 1934. This group was also known as the We Burmans Association. He became a leader for young people called Thakins. This title meant they were the true masters of their land. He was even the patron for the All Burma Students Union. By 1941, the colonial government called him an enemy of the state. He helped send leaders like Aung San to seek military training abroad. He wrote many poems, such as "On Boycott" in 1927.

After Burma became independent in 1948, a civil war began. This brought great sorrow to Hmaing. He spent his later years working hard for peace. He joined the World Peace Congress as a chairman in 1952. He even won the Stalin Peace Prize in 1954. He traveled to many places like China, Hungary, and the Soviet Union. Hmaing died in 1964 at the age of 88. He wanted to see a peaceful and united country.
