He released these poems when he was sixteen years old. Literary experts thought they were very old classics. Later, he traveled to England to study law. He stayed at Medina Villas near Brighton. While there, he studied the plays of Shakespeare. He also enjoyed listening to English folk tunes. These different sounds helped shape his own unique style.

In 1913, Tagore achieved something truly historic. He became the first Asian to win a Nobel Prize. He won the prize for Literature because of his book, Gitanjali.

Tagore's influence can still be heard in many countries today. He wrote the national anthem for India, called "Jana Gana Mana."

He also wrote the national anthem for Bangladesh. His songs even inspired the anthem of Sri Lanka.
