He was born on June 26, 1786. This was only four years after the Rattanakosin Kingdom began. He spent much of his life working as a scribe for royalty. A scribe is a person who writes for kings or princes. His beautiful poems are still loved by people in Thailand today.

Phu wrote many different kinds of verse. Some of his poems are called Nirat. These poems tell stories about his many journeys. For example, Nirat Phukhao Thong tells of a trip to a Golden Mountain. He also wrote Nirat Suphan about a trip to Suphan Buri province. His most famous work is a long story called Phra Aphai Mani. This epic poem follows a hero named Prince Aphai Mani on many adventures.

His life had many ups and downs. He worked for King Rama II as a court poet. After the king died, Phu became a monk for nearly twenty years. He later returned to work for the government during the reign of King Rama III. He served as a scribe for Prince Chuthamani. Later, under King Mongkut, he received a high title. He became the Chief of the Department of Royal Scribes of the Front Palace. This was his final job before he died in 1855.

Phu faced many hard times during his life. He once went to jail after a fight around the year 1821. While he was in prison, he started writing his famous Phra Aphai Mani story. He published the story in small parts over twenty years. He also lost his royal title once before. This happened because he corrected a poem written by King Rama III. Despite these struggles, his talent helped him become a great writer.
