Snowboard cross

sports Maturity 5-7 Next article →

Snowboard cross is a fast race on snow.

Four to six riders race at once. They go down a narrow course. The path has many hard parts. It has jumps and steep drops. It also has turns and bumps. These parts test how well riders stay in control. They must keep their speed high to win.

Riders wear special gear to stay safe. They use a snowboard that is heavy and stiff. Most riders wear a helmet. Some wear a mouth guard. They also wear tight clothes. This stops them from getting stuck on other riders. Some wear body armor to protect their backs. This helps during fast crashes.

This sport has a fun history. Two men named Steven Rechtschaffner and Greg Stump came up with the idea. They wanted a new segment for a TV show. In 1991, they built the first course. Many people call it boardercross. The Olympic Games call it snowboard cross. It became an Olympic event in 2006. It is also part of the X Games. Even video games like SSX use this sport for fun.
