A snowboard is a single, wide board for winter fun.

You stand on it with both feet. Unlike skis, which come in a pair, a snowboard is one piece. To stay on, riders use special boots. These boots clip into bindings.

Bindings keep your feet steady while you glide.

Snowboards have many different styles. Some are made for jumps in a park. These are called freestyle boards. Others are for riding in deep, soft snow. These are called powder boards.

Some boards even split in half! A splitboard lets you walk up mountains like skis. Then, you join the halves back together to ride down.

Most boards have a wooden core. They also have a thin strip of steel on the sides. This is called an edge. The edge helps the board grip hard snow or ice. This makes it easier to turn.
