This article covers sensitive topics: religion. Parents can manage visibility in Parental Controls.

Religious organizations help people follow their faiths. These groups manage many important tasks for their members. One main job is looking after holy buildings. This includes places like mosques, churches, temples, and synagogues. They also pay salaries to religious leaders. These leaders might be imams, priests, ministers, or rabbis.

These groups also set rules for their followers. They might decide how to appoint new leaders. They also help define what the group believes.

How these groups work depends on their country. Some governments run religious activities as part of the state. In other places, the law keeps the state and religion separate. This means religions must be private organizations. These private groups are often funded by the people who attend services.

France has very specific rules for these groups. A law from 1905 says the state cannot pay for religions. However, groups can choose to register with the government. There are two main types of registered groups in France. The first is an association of worship. These groups focus only on religious rituals and do not pay certain taxes.

The second type is a cultural association. These groups can run schools or other activities. They might even make a profit from their work. For example, the Mormons use an association of worship for religion. They use a cultural association to run a school. This helps them follow the rules while still teaching students.

Other countries have different ways of managing faith. In the United States, these are called faith-based organizations. In Croatia, religious communities have many special rights. They can run preschools and primary schools. They can also visit people in hospitals or prisons. To start a new group in Croatia, a community needs 500 believers. They must also show they have existed for five years.
