Faber's life was full of movement and learning. He started as a shepherd in the high mountains of the French Alps. As a boy, he had a remarkable memory for words. He could hear a sermon and repeat it exactly later that day. In 1525, he went to Paris to study at a school called Collège Sainte-Barbe. There, he met Francis Xavier and Ignatius of Loyola. Faber and Xavier even earned their Master of Arts degrees on the same day in 1530.

Faber played a key role in the early days of the Jesuits. He was the first member of the small group to be ordained as a priest. This happened on May 30, 1534. After traveling to Venice, the group decided to form their official community. They went to Rome to meet with Pope Paul III. Faber spent much of his time traveling to places like Parma and Piacenza. He also traveled to Germany to help the Church during a time of great change.

Faber was famous for his unique way of working with people. He did not just preach to huge crowds in big churches. Instead, he walked across Europe on foot to meet people where they were. He talked to everyone from powerful kings to common people. He used a method called the Spiritual Exercises to guide their souls. He was also very religious in a personal way. He often asked for help from angels and saints during his travels.

Faber worked very hard until the very end of his life. He traveled to Spain and Portugal to help grow the Jesuit order. He even helped establish the Jesuits in Portugal while at the royal court in Lisbon. In 1546, the Pope asked him to be an expert at the Council of Trent. However, his constant walking had made him very tired. He died on August 1, 1546, at the age of 40. In 2013, Pope Francis named him a saint.
