As a boy, he had a great memory. He could repeat a whole sermon from memory. Later, he went to study in Paris. He met Ignatius of Loyola there. They became very close friends. Faber helped Ignatius with philosophy. Ignatius helped Faber with spiritual matters.

Faber helped start the Society of Jesus. This group is also called the Jesuits. He was the first of the group to become a priest. Faber spent much of his life traveling on foot. He walked across Europe to talk to people. He did not just preach to large crowds. He was famous for his kind and deep talks. He helped many people find peace.

Faber worked hard to help the Catholic Church. He traveled to places like Germany and Spain. He even helped start the Jesuits in Portugal. He died in 1546 at age 40. He was very tired from his long journeys. Many people call him a saint today. Pope Francis named him a saint in 2013.
