He was part of a noble family. Later, he moved to Paris to study. There, he met a man named Ignatius of Loyola. Together, they helped start a group called the Jesuits.

Francis traveled to many far lands by ship. He spent a lot of time in India. In Goa, he taught children and helped the sick.

He also visited the Pearl Fishery Coast. There, he spoke to a group called the Paravas. He worked to build many churches.

Francis also traveled to Japan and the Maluku Islands. He wanted to reach China too. In Japan, he met with leaders to share his ideas. He found it hard to learn new languages. He also faced many people who did not agree with him. He died on an island near China in 1552. Many people today call him a great missionary.
